Research: Evaluation of the Re-Make of The Breakfast Club (task 17)

What went well?:
  • All planned scenes were filmed within the 1 hour time slot
  • We were able to record a voice over and insert it onto our finished film opening
  • All clips were edited to make a 2 minute film opening
  • 5 different people were filmed for the 5 different characters, making it clearer to the auidience that they were 5 distinctive characters
  • Everyone contributed equally in the group
  • People compromised when people disagreed
What didn't go well?:
  • We should have used a tripod instead of filming all the scenes handheld
  • Consider the setting where we filmed. We filmed in the cafeteria which was busy, when we wanted to achieve the setting of a Saturday detention, this made the shots seem unrealistic for the story line
  • We could have used a wider variety of shots, for example, when introducing The Athlete, we could have filmed a tracking shot of her shoes.
Shots that I would change:
The shot of the lockers: Instead of filming a tilt of the lockers, I would keep the camera still, on a tripod and slowly zoom out, gradually revealing the graffiti the students wrote, 'I hate Monday's' I think this shot would look cleaner than a tilt. I also felt that the tilt seemed a bit long.

The shot of the 5 students in the detention room:
I would make sure that all the characters were present and they all sat in the same seat. This would make the scenes flow better and eliminate any continuity errors.

The shots of the students walking into the school:I would film a variety of shots for each student. Such as close ups, medium close up, long shots and point of view shots. There would be a wider variety of shots. Also, I wouldn't edit all tghe students entering the school with the same shots. Each student would have a different variety of shots, or a difference sequence of shots.

The shot when The Athelet sits next to The Princess:
Rather than just having a long shot showing The Athlete sit down, I would also film a medium shot and a point of view shot as The Athlete pulls out a chair next to The princess.

The shot when The Brain walks into the school:
The Brain's head is slightly cut off as she walks closer to the camera. I would position the camera slightly further away from The Brain.
