Production: Signing Off

Today, March 5th, we finished our rough cut 4 and final film opening. We signed off on the sign out sheet to let our teacher know that we have finished with our coursework

Filming: Re-filming after feedback

Re-filming after feed back.
We decided to re-film our locker scene as the feed back we received was that our locker scene was to dark and it was at a bad angle.

Here are some pictures from our re-filming today, there has been improvements made for instance the lighting. Before the locker scene was extremely dark and it was difficult to see what was in the scene, however this time we used a top light to capture more light into the scenes. It made a big difference as the
viewers can finally see the drawings on the lockers that will symbolise the different social group stereotypes.

Also, we added more use of mies-en-scene within the lockers to emphasise the character's personalities and to make the locker scene significant. For example, we placed jock/varsity jackets inside the jock's locker and a handbag and ballet shoes for the princess's locker.

Planning: Adjusting Title Credits on Motion

Titles credits on Motion

As our teacher gave us feedback stating - our
title credits were read backwards as they entered left when it
should enter the frame from the right side, as we need
to see their role & name first before their sure name.

Here is a gif of how I fixed the title credits on motion, by changing the positioning from right not left.

Production: Re-writing The Nerd's Blog Post

Our teacher commented on The Nerd's blog post. She wanted to make sure that the blog fully described the students in the classroom

Production: Rough Cut 4 Feedback

Feedback: More Improvements

Feedback
We've received more feedback from our teacher in order
to improve our film before the deadline.

1. Sort out distribution ident.
2. first titles wouldn't be on the screen already.
3. Locker shot - grainy & poor framing.
4. Sort out titles - wrong order & too many names listed for
each role (don't use one name more than once).
5. Titles (read backwards) enter screen from left
not right.
6. Re-shoot board with significant posters.
7. Re-edit typing sequences so they're split screened.
8. End the opening - could have better shot
to complete.

Update with our Social Networking (Twitter)

Social Networking
Another twitter update from our account, we've made sure to keep our followers up to date with the process with our filming. It is important for us to update our tweets as majority of our audience is always active on social networking therefore they'll be able to gain an idea of how everything within the movie process is going.

Here is a list of our followers.

Feedback on Rough Cut 4

Our original Jocks didn't fit their stereotypes, so we have to re-film them, wearing bright coloured baseball jackets.

We need to introduce more split screens to link the characters to what the nerd is writing, also to shorten the length of our clip.

We need to edit our titles, we also need to add sound to our film.

Extension Task 1

Feedback: Rough Cut 2

Rough Cut Feedback 2
Here is some feed back for our second rough cut, there are still a few changes needed to be made in order to make our opening scene suitable and coherent to the audience.

Production: Editing our title sequence

Editing our title sequence from feedback.
After receiving another feed back from our teacher, I decided to adjust the composition of the credits going along the bottom.
I fixed the composition by moving it towards to centre, so it's easier to see, I've also changed it from black and white to colour.

As you can see it makes a huge difference as it is
now easier to see since it's placed within the centre meaning it
will captivate the audience's eye while they're watching the introduction.
It is also easier to view the title credits now as well as it is in
colour instead of black & white.

Feedback : Rough Cut 1

Rough Cut Feedback

Our first rough started off in Black & white, as a group
we thought this would be effective as it will give the impression
of a more dark and horror-like theme, in relation to our CYB3R film. However, we received feed back from our teacher that Black & Whitewould not be suitable as our audience target is teenagers. Majorityof teenagers nowadays aren't really into black and white movies, thereforemaking it black and white could effect our target audience.

After receiving feedback, we decided to change it back to
the original colours as it will be better. Also, making it colour
throughout was also better for our group as the colours of the clothingthe stereotype groups are what will symbolise their character and easier for the audience to distinguish the different social groups.

Our teacher really liked our mis-en-scene therefore we also decidedmaintain the colours, so that the mise-en-scene will be
better to identify within the scenes.

Here is another screenshot of the black and white colour scheme
through our first rough cut.

Audience feedback on our blogs aesthetics

Feedback number 1:

Its aesthetically pleasing
There is a ghostly feel

Made me want to further develop my blog
The colours matched the theme of the film
Its eye catching, interesting to look at
It makes the film look as if it was a horror based around a mathematician or scientist.

Feedback number 2:
It makes the film look as if it based around a mathematician or scientist or computer scientist
At first glance it wouldn't be about a horror.

It's easy to tell that there are such diverse groups within one community.
The negative colours make me want to continue reading the blog; it is unusual.

Production: Editing Production Company

Editing our production company for the title sequence

After analysing our rough cuts, we've realised that we needed to

adjust and design a new production company title as we cannot
have the same design for the titles and production company,
as the production company is what will represent us and our identity
and it will have no relation to the movie.

This GIF shows a combination of different production company
designs we constructed. We decided to experiment with
the colour scheme and composition, however after experimenting
we've come to our final design which
is the green and black one.

Our final production company design.
This would be easier for the audience/viewers to identify the
production company as it completely differs
to our title sequence's layout, colour and concept.

Production: Using HandBreak

In order for out FinalCut Pro file to fit onto the blog, we had to used HandBreak to condense the file form a 'mov' to an 'mp4' This allows Blogger to be able to read the file

Production: Editing Rough Cut 3

Here is a gif of editing rough cut 3. In order to show what The Nerd was typing, I used QuickTime Player to record the scree. I changed all the clips back to their natural colour, removing the black and white effect. To transfer files to one another, we used AirDrop, as we only have one video drive with our files, and we used 3 Macs. After cutting some of the footage, we had to render it, to allow the file to be read.

Production: Rough Cut 2 Changes

  • After receiving feedback from our teacher, we turned all of the shots back into colour
  • We re-did the titles in motion, moving them further away from the bottom of the screen
  • We changed the name of the distribution company from 'TITLEGROUPS28' to 'TITLESGROUP28'

Editing Research: How to Create a Split-Screen on FinalCut Pro

In order to achieve the split screen effect for the film opening, I had to do some additional research on how to create a split screen on FinalCut Pro

Production: QuickTime Player

In order to allow the audience to see what The Nerd is writing, we used QuickTime Player to record the screen. I took two recordings of the screen. One showing the entire screen and the other just showing the document page. The two shots allows the audience to be clear on what media The Nerd was using and to be aware of what they were typing about each stereotypical character

Production: Editing Rough Cut 2

This is a gif of piecing together the basic sequence off shots. I used Final Cut Pro ti edit. On the top left box is a list of the imported clips. These consist of all of the clips recorded over the 3 filming days on the two different cameras. The top centre box is a preview of the selected clip. This is where I watched each clip and decided where it should be cut. The top right boxes a sequence of the film opening. Here, I could see if the clips were in the correct order. The bottom bar is a timeline of the the clips, I could readjust and re-sequence the clips if it was necessary.

Production: SECOND DRAFT OF SOUNDTRACK

Feedback

feedback 1: It is effective, puts me in a different mood and it goes with the theme of the film.

feedback 2: It sounded smooth, it built a sinister and scary atomsphere

Planning: Production & Identity on Motion

After uploading our second rough cut, we received feed back that we needed to fix our title sequence openings. Such as the text and title. First our credits list was placed at the bottom of the frame, which needed to be changed as it will be better for the viewers if placed within the centre.

This is a screenshot on Motion, re-positioning the
 title credits within the centre
as it was placed to far from the frame making it difficult for viewers to see.

Another fault that was identified in our second rough cut title sequence was that we maintained the same font/style for our production company and title. We had to fix this as our production company is our own identity therefore it wasn't a good idea to make it similar to the title sequence, as the audience will get confused thinking that is part of our movie, when the "DMG PRODUCTIONS" is actually our production company.

Therefore here is a screenshot of it before, after I removed it from the
title sequence.

However we decided to keep this "CYB3R" title sequence opening.

Research: Different Horror Films Soundtracks.

I looked at different opening sequences for different horror films to give me an idea on how to make the sound track. I looked at the following videos:
