Planning: Our Twitter Page

We decided to set up a twitter page, so that when we are filming we can keep our teachers updated with what we're filming. We can update our progress and post pictures of behind the scenes.

Planning: Branding Our Blog (task 37)

To brand our blog, we changed the main colour theme to black. This makes the blog seem like an old computer. We chose the font 'courier' as this is one of the fonts we considered to link with our film, CYB3R. The colour of the blog gives a hint to the audience that the film had a dark storyline and there could be a lot of tension and surprises throughout the film.

We chose an image of different equations written out. This reflects on the main character, The Nerd. The blue glow of the equation draws peoples' eyes to it, making them a major focal point.

For the header of our blog, we chose the title card that we used for our pitch

Planning: Titles Sequence- Order of Credits

From previous research, we have found that the common sequence of titles for High School Drama movies are as followed:
- Production company
- Title of movie
- Main Cast ( list of actors)
- Casting director
- Music director
- Music composer
- Co-producer
- Costume designer
- Editor
- Production designer
- Director of photography
- Executive producer
- Producer
- Screenplay

- Directed by

With this research, we plan to use the following credit sequence:
- Production company
- Title of movie (CYB3R)
- Actors (The Nerd, The Jocks, The Mean Girls, The Drama Kids)
- Casting Director (Danica)
- Music by
- Co-producer
- Costumes by
- Editors
- Executive producer
- Producer
- Director

Planning: Costumes (task 31)

We will be using different forms of clothing and different colours for our costumes to signify the differences between social groups.

We have told our cast very specific guidelines for their costumes.

Nerd:
Black baggy clothes
preferably black trainers, this is whether or not the actor as them.
a big black rucksack, if the actor hasn't got one it can be borrowed from Danica.

Mean Girls:
Bright coloured clothes, such as pink, light blue etc
skirts.. if available
NO BLACK OR DARK CLOTHES
excessive make up
large jewellery

Jocks:
Sportwear
Trainers

Drama Kids:
vintage/retro clothing
preferably dyed hair
(we can find suitable actors within our college, with their hair already dyed)

Planning: Time Toast (task 25)

Filming Day 1: Establishing Shots of the College

Day 1:
Today, as many people weren't in college in the morning, we decided to film establishing shots of the college. These shots will make the audience aware of the setting- which is one of the main goals of a film opening.
On each locker, Danica drew graffiti with a whiteboard marker. Each locker had distinctive drawings to represent stereotypical high school students. The Princess' locker had her nickname with a crown. The Girly Girl's locker had flowers. The Jock's locker had an American football. The Drama Kid's locker had the iconic drama masks. The Hopeless Romantic's locker had two love hearts. The Nerd's locker had offences written on it and an illustration of him.
To get a less jerky shot, Mimi used the fig rig to film the 6 different lockers

Danica positioned the camera on the tripod to make sure that the full illustration of the nerd could be seen.

Danica also used the fig rig to film as she walked up the stairs

As she walked down the corridor, Danica used a fig rig to stabilise the shot. It makes it less jerky.

Gaby used a fig rig to film down an empty corridor. Using the fig rig would give a smoother effect rather than placing the camera on a tripod and zooming in, as it will lose focus and become pixilated. Mimi walked behind her to watch the footage that was being filmed. As these shots will be silent in the film opening,Gaby and Mimi were able to talk as they walked down the corridor, suggesting new ideas, such as 'go faster', 'go slower', 'more to the left' or 'more to the right'
Mimi and Danica outside the college in order to be able to tilt the camera

Planning: Which Institution/ Studio? (task 23)

Universal Pictures produced Unfriended.  Universal Studios is a possible distributor for our film, as they produced a film called 'Unfriended,' which influenced our film majorly.

It is also one of the main studios seen for high school dramas.

Using Universal Studios allows us to have more title sequences as they would have a had a large production budget allowing them to display more titles.

Paramount Pictures is another well known production company. It has distributed a number of well known movies targeted at teens, such as the Transformers series, the Shrek series and World War Z. Like Universal, Paramount has a large production budget and is a very successful company, with a $1.2billion revenue as of 2011

Planning: Fonts (task 24)

Fonts we are considering:

  • Courier
  • American type writer
  • Synchro LET
  • Travelling typewriter

American Typewriter: This font is legible and is available
on many different programmes

Synchro LET: This font is only available in capital letters, which could be good for the title of the film. The aesthetic of the font is very techy

Travelling typewriter: has a slight sketchy feel to it. It's very similar to  American Typewriter.

Courier: Very easy to read and there is no confusion between letters

We have considered these fonts as you will be able to hear a typewriter during our opening sequence as the main character will be typing during it, it would be conventional to have font that matches the sound.

More over the font looks 'techy' and 'geeky,' This matches the stereotype of the main character as he is the nerd.

Out of the three written down, our favourite font is 'Digital serial' and it is more likely that we use that one during our title sequence.

There is a possibility that we use motion to create our own, similar font, that resembles all three fonts that we are considering.

Planning: Locations & Weather Forecast (task 30)

We will be filming in:

  • Media classroom
  • Corridors
  • Canteen area
  • Hall
  • In front of the college
  • Reception area
  • Lockers
Our main location will be City and Islington Sixth Form College, we will have many different settings within the site.
The media class room will be the main setting for our title sequence. This is where we will be properly introduced to the main characters, it will also be where the nerd starts watching them, and taking pictures of them.
The Nerd will be seen walking up the stairs, on her way to her classroom.
This is the canteen which will be shown at the start to emphasise the location/setting of a "high school/college".
Another shot of the canteen.
The hallways of the college to show where the
nerd will be walking.

We plan to film The Nerd in the library, the library will also imply
the "school" and learning environment.
We're planning on using the locker corridor to introduce conflict between groups of students,The Nerd, The Jock and The Mean Girl.

To set the scene of the college, we're going to film the common areas in the college such as the canteen, hallways and the reception.

The reception will be shown during the start of the opening scene
to suggest the idea of entering a school.

The rest of the locations will be used to set the scene, and allow the audience to realise that they are watching a high school drama

WEATHER FORECAST :
As majority of our shots/scenes are filmed inside the college, the weather didn't effect our filming process as much as we only needed a few shots outside.

However the weather for the day we started filming (Thursday 29th January 2015) was cloudy blue/grey skies, which was helpful as we needed the sky to be quite light for better lighting within the shots outside.

JANUARY 2015.

Planning: Rough Draft of Titles (extension)

We plan on having our font similar to this, doing things such as having '3' instead of 'E' to make it look more numerical.
